Madison and I keep a notebook in her room where we exchange
notes to each other, often several times an evening, just to help her sort
things out and sleep. I opened it to
this page tonight and was struck by the fact that I can’t really truly promise safety.
Putting my kids to bed tonight was harder than
usual, because I kept thinking how there are men and women out there that one
day come home and their child’s bed is just empty. And it stays empty. And I have no words for that.
